REVIEW- The Rose Society by Marie Lu (#2 In The Young Elites series) 3/5

The Rose Society by Maria Lu (#2 in The Young Elites series)

“Once upon a time, a girl had a father, a prince, a society of friends. Then they betrayed her, and she destroyed them all…”

Adelina Amouteru’s heart is set on revenge. Now known and feared as the White Wolf, she flees Kenettra to find other Young Elites in the hopes of building her own army.

Her goal: To strike down the Inquisition Axis, the white-cloaked soldiers who nearly killed her.

But Adelina is no heroine. The leader of the Inquisition, wants her dead, and her former friends at the Dagger Society want to stop her thirst for vengeance. Adelina struggles to cling to the good within her. But how can someone be good, when her very existence depends on darkness?

I was greatly disappointed on how this book ended. Very disappointed. I’m not sure what else to say, the main character got so out of hand and she was pretty annoying. My favourite character would have been the Rainmaker or Magiano (I FORGOT HOW TO SPELL IT!).

The overall plot was great but the ending was horrible. I guess some people would disagree but I didn’t like it. I felt like the main character changed too much by the end which resulted in her killing some of her friends (I mean, were friends).

Rainmaker and Magiano got what they wanted in the end, money, I would say that Magiano cared a lot about Adelina during the book but I think he was disappointed in what she had became. A killer, a queen and a monster. I could just imagine his face mixed with disappointment and sadness. Ok, back to the review.

The cover of the book looks fantastic! I was extremely excited to read this book because of the cover. I have mixed emotions about the book as a whole but I do recommend it to people who like badass main characters and depressing or negative endings for books.

I give this book a… um… I am not entirely sure I should give this a three or a two. I’ll be kind. I give it a 3/5.

The 5th Wave (Written by Rick Yancey)

the-5th-wave-poster-banner.jpgHELLO! Today you are joined with both Athena and Cailey! We will be talking about The 5th Wave, the book as well as the movie we just saw. It was only released into theatres on Thursday (14th of January) in Australia and here we will tell you our thoughts.

Athena is Italics. Cailey is in bold.

So we went and watched The 5th Wave at the movies today and Cailey came to my house afterwards so we decided to do a blog post about it. Many people probably haven’t seen it just yet but I really recommend you do. Read the book as well.

I recommend it too! I think it was really accurate to the book. The choice of actors was GREAT! I like some of the things they added into the movie to make it more interesting as the book has lots of slow bits.

Evan is sooooo hot! I think I am in love!! Look at this master piece of humanity and beautifulness! I had never imagined him looking like this! He looks so badass! I love him!

We can tell, Athena. I do admit he is quite hot. I think I would rather Ben Parish aka Zombie. Enough about hot boys. The movie stuck close to the book I think. It’s been a while since I have read the book but all the key scenes and points I remember were in the movie. I couldn’t say I was disappointed with the movie because I wasn’t.

I was almost crying when their dad died. When the mum died, not so much. When we were there it was only day 3 of it being in the cinema and there was hardly anyone there! I was so surprised! It was actually really good! Every time the characters were introduced like Mc hotty Evan I was smiling like a mad woman. Vosch. What can I say about him? He is an evil little alien arse.

I was so surprised when I found out Alex Roe was playing Evan. I thought he wouldn’t be any good but I guess I was wrong because he was great in that role. I wonder if there is going to be a movie for The Infinite Sea (The second book of the series). Is it going to be popular enough to get a second movie?

I know right. I remember one of my favourite books called “I am Number Four” by Pittacus Lore was made into a movie. They only made the first book because it wasn’t popular enough. It was really disappointing. I loved that movie. BACK TO THE 5TH WAVE! IT WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE! (in my eyes anyway) AND I HOPE YOU GET TO SEE IT BECAUSE IT WAS GREAT AND WAS AMAZING. DONT JUDGE A MOVIE BY ITS TRAILER!

Lol, OK. I agree! SEE THE 5TH WAVE! THE SECOND MOVIE DEPENDS ON YOU SEEING THE FIRST! IT WAS REALLY GOOD! Also, watch the book. Watch the book? Where did I get that from? READ THE BOOK! It may be a little slow in some places but it has its moments and be patient with it! Its amazing.

Are we trying to convince people to watch the movie? Or are we just making people spend money for no reason if they don’t like it?

Oh. They’ll like it!! I bet they will!

That’s good! Until next time everyone!

P.s This is my favourite quote from the book!

How to start the new school year!

So, in Australia our school year is beginning in EXACTLY two weeks.

I know most of the American people went back at the start of January but there’s everyone else right? Don’t over react. You’ve still got two weeks to get ready! So lets get started!

Clean out your school bag!

  • This is probably the most important thing to do before you go back to school. I know that my school bag gets filled with lots of rubbish (Sometimes leaving food in my lunch box over holidays. I know. Gross). The rubbish includes rappers from food which I couldn’t have been bothered putting in the bin and paper! Paper is the worst thing. I promised myself to be more organised like Athena this year. It’s probably never going to happen.

Make sure your uniform is washed!

  • If you’re like me and go to school in Australia it is compulsory (Except at Steiner Schools) to wear a uniform. We have to wear long socks, a tran-seasonal skirt and the worst blue top. You must remember to wash your sports uniform too as on the first day you might get your timetable and find out you have PE the next day. Luckily we get to wear our PE uniform to school if we have PE. Yay. I hate PE.

Buy your text books a little earlier than usual!

  • So I have seen plenty of people having the problem that they ordered their textbooks really late and didn’t get them until the second or third week into school. The teachers hate it when you say “We haven’t gotten them yet”. Then by saying that another five people will also say it, so the people who actually did buy them on time get in trouble (along with the rest of the class). Here we have to buy them online so they get to us on time. They probably print them somewhere overseas >.<

Make sure you have your bus passes and/or money to get home!

  • This is one thing I haven’t done this holidays yet. I haven’t gotten my bus pass! This allows me to travel home for free without having to pay anything. This is the main transportation in my town as there is so many schools and kids plus mums and dads have to work when school gets out (Around 3:05pm for me). I know my parents only finish work at 5pm.

  • If you do not label everything, you are doomed. Last year I clearly remember taking my pencil into the wood rooms and someone borrowed my pencil. At the end of the lesson I went to get it from that person, they said “Oh no, thats my pencil.” Unfortunately I had not labeled it. Another story would be my friend put her phone in her bag for PE, it was the wrong bag. She didn’t realise until the lesson ended that her phone was not in her bag. Luckily it had her name on it. Someone had given it to the Welfare head so she was pretty lucky to get it back.

Go to bed earlier for a week before school starts!

  • I bet everyone has had the problem of waking up a little late to go to school because you stayed up too late reading, watching Netflix or being on Tumblr. You don’t want to be late and tired on the first day of school, do you?

That concludes todays post! School. Yayyy… I am sure when Athena reads this she will be extremely happy I actually posted about school. I hate school but we have all got to be ready! It is year 10! Only three years left of school :/

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

A thousand Pieces Of You by Claudia Gray

Endgame: The Calling by James Frey & Nils Johnson-Shelton

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley

Most people probably have read most of these books but they are my favourite ones! I could never choose one of them to be number one. My current read is Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare (I was going to re-read the mortal instruments but I hadn’t read Clockwork Angel). I recommend every one of these books to you! Hope you enjoy!

One more thing. I will make reviews for these somewhere in the future! I said SOMEWHERE! I have no idea when.

Shadowhunters (The new one on TV)

So. This was urgent. I had to make a post on Shadowhunters; the new tv show that recently came onto Freeform (Originally ABC Family (I think)). For some reason it just was strange. EXTREMELY STRANGE. In my mind while I was watching it I kept comparing it to the book (City Of Bones by Cassandra Clare) but I know that Cassandra has previously said “The series would not be a book a season, but rather a mix of events, stating that the show would be more of “a blend”.”

I don’t understand why they chose to do this. Cassandra also had no part in the casting of the characters, she should have. Some of the characters didn’t have the right (I don’t know how to describe it) things to be that specific character. Like the actor playing Clary. I didn’t think she was the right choice. It just didn’t seem like she was the right choice. I was still probably comparing it to the book but how could I not?

The one character that really annoyed me because if I remember correctly Hodge was supposed to be an older man than he was in Shadowhunters. (I must stop comparing it to the book). Just because it is different I will keep watching it until the end and THEN voice my opinion on how it did but for the moment it is quite weird and unsatisfying. The only good character choices were Alec, Isabelle and Magnus. Jace was an OK pick, lets see how he does in the future.

Thanks for reading this post! I’m sure Cailey will want to add something.

15 minutes later-

Cailey – Nope. Completely summed it up. Disappointing and Clary is as annoying as always.

Book Review –Winter by Marissa Meyer (#4 The Lunar Chronicles) 4/5

Winter by Marissa Meyer (#4 in The Lunar Chronicles series)

“She’s our lost princess. And she’s coming home.”

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Let’s be honest here. This book was 824 pages long. It really didn’t need to be that long. In some points of the book it dragged on in the scenes and that was when I put the book down. It took me eight sittings to finish this book. I have no idea why people are raving about it so much, I know some aspects of the book were great but some were not.

At some point in the book I was wishing for the author to take me back to Wolf’s perspective (Or whatever you would want to call it) and that too like three to four chapters (The chapters were long). This was the point in the book where *SPOILER* Cinder and Wolf were taken to Artemisia because they led the rebellion in RM-9 (And were defeated). When I was taken back to Wolf I almost cried at the scene (Not because it took so long to get back to Wolf but because what happened in the chapter). *END OF SPOILER*

I am being honest when I say that I think the 1st, 2nd and 3rd book were way better than Winter. I think its an either hate or love relationship with the book. Maybe its because i loved most of the scenes in the book I loved it. I’m not sure. I had mixed feelings when I finish it. The ending was a bit unsatisfying and a tiny bit overwhelming.

I mean the world, the characters, the story, and the writing were great but there were definitely some parts that Marissa Meyer could have cut out and made it  shorter book. Other than that it was pretty good. You just had to be really patient with it. I decided to not make it one of my unfinished books and kept pushing through.

In the end I liked it (Maybe loved it) so that’s why I am giving it a 4/5. I would have given it a 3.5 but I decided to be nice ;).

I was pretty excited to see the movie. Now I have seen it twice and I understand it all better once I saw it for the second time. I couldn’t believe the ending. THEY LEFT US ON A STUPID CLIFF HANGER! IT WAS AMAZING! And now we have to wait two years till the next movie being released in 2017! The ninth movie will be released in 2019… that’s too far away. Like. COME ON. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. I sooo need to see what happens next!!! I saw it for the first time on boxing day and it left me as shocked as the GIF above. The second time was last week… I don’t know how to describe my feelings about this movie. I’m shocked, I know. But am I sad? Happy? I don’t know.
